02.08.2006 Das Wetter war gut, so daß ich einige Teile lackieren konnte: Heckreling und Seiltrommeln. Den Rettungsreifen habe ich mit einer kleinen Drehbank aus einem Stück 4 mm Kunsstoff gedreht, lackiert habe ich sie mit Humbrol Nr. 18. Das Seil enstand aus kleinen Vorhang Schnüren (Idee von meiner Frau). Für die kleinen Ketten passte eine alte gebrochene Schmuckkette zum Maßstab - manchmal zahlt es sich aus wenn man solche Dinge aufhebt.
23.09.2006 The stern similarly as the stem got a hatch, reel and capstan. Basically all small deck fittings are ready and mounted. In between I have also build the ladder, water buckets and the gang. I am building from anything that is available. Hatches are from 1mm plywood and alder blocks. Hinges are from old computer cards - those from 15 years ago, some copper and tailors pins. And eye glasses. Capstan is a combination of copper and brass. The base is made of 28mm copper pipe used for central heating. Turned parts were prepared using very old small modelling lathe. It takes longer to adjust it that actually turning the element. The whole thing soldered using propane-butane.
The bulwark was fitted to the hull before even attaching the whales. I have built wooden form and used it to draw paper shape, which was then transferred onto 0.8 mm brass plate. Bending of the bulwark of course again on the wooden stock. Bottom edge, in places where supports are soldered to the bulwark, I cut out small grooves, where I soldered in 0.8mm wires as pegs. In appropriate places on the deck I drilled holes for the pegs – around 30 of them. The hull and bulwark were painted separately, and then glued together with cyanic-acryl. Afterwards I attached the whale. |
