There were number of R-17s rescue cutters along Polish shores and also in former Eastern Germany - Arkona, and Stoltera. Polish units were all named after winds e.g. PASAT, HALNY, MISTRAL, MONSUN, SIROKKO. Do not know what was total number of units built. This ship can be a beautiful model, and used to be very popular among modellers. Perhaps still is...
Back in 80s
I also have built paper model of R-17, but as sister unit - PASAT.
During my visit to Gdynia, Poland, in summer of 1984, I managed to board original
PASAT, and shot lots of pictures, which became a basis for documentation
modifications. Fortunately my parents kept them somewhere, and after 22 years
they can be seen by others as well! Look in the Photo Galleries section for R-17 Pasat & Halny
