I started off with correcting the hull’s lines. I assumed (correctly) that plans drawn manually in 60s were not 100% accurate. Scanned versions of plans were loaded into PC and combined lines of Wodnik and Roter Löwe paved the way to my lines of Wodnik.
The plan includes locations of masts, bulkheads avoiding gun ports, of course gun ports’ location themselves. Using this drawing I also designed the keel. The time I spent drawing body plan was well spent plan, later I realized that assembling the skeleton where all parts were fitting to each other as designed.

Wodnik from Plany Modelarskie Having read and participated in model ship building forums made me think of building model of historical ship. I have got quite a few sets of plans from different periods, but all seemed to me to be complicated for the first attempt like that. I have spent literally days looking and the plans, pictures on the web and in the end I made my choice. Galleon Wodnik (Aquarius), also known Meerman. It is typical galleon from that period, built most probably in 1623 using Dutch methodology. The most famous and documented event with Wodnik is Battle at Oliwia, outside Gdansk (Danzig) harbour. |

Andrzej Stefanski has sent me few pictures of his model of carrack (or karaka) from 15th Century. Carrack in those times used to be the largest ship available. They appeared in Mediterranean as a bigger continuation of hulk type (sometimes spelled holk also). Carrack or Nao was a 3 or 4 mast with rounded stern with aft- and fore-castles. They were first large enough European vessels to cross the ocean and roomy enough to carry supplies for long voyages.

04.11.06 The work moves on. I decided to build fibre-glass deck-house. I divided the whole deck-house into two parts - front with the bridge and rear with skylight and chimneys. Later I will glue them together on common base. Practically I have to make 4 divided forms. I drew out the deck-house on the PC and its structural frame is ready. Built from 4mm plywood. I will fill it with two components building foam, it is hard and is easy to work with. |

I finished deckhouse’s frame, filled it with building foam and sanded to the level of the framing. To sand the foam is easy but it becomes very electrostatic; there more cleaning afterwards that the work itself. The deckhouse in the version is thinner for thickness of laminate which will be around 1mm. |
