New R-17 Rescue Boat Pictures!

R-17
Astra28 from papermodels.pl has recently uploaded links to his zipped pictures of R-17 rescue ship. Most of the pictures show sister unit Powiew based in Ustka. Having Astra's approval now we can show all the pictures in our gallery also!

In 2007 Astra28 had a chance to board original Halny, unfortunately already after the changes and with new painting, which nowadays serves as divers’ supporting unit within Baltic sea.

Some of the pictures can be also used while building much later version of rescue ship i.e. R-27 (Cyklon, Sztorm). I have recently also got the plans and card model set of that newer ship.

R-17 Halny - Part VI
Sunday, 16 December 2007

It is time to put some more details about R-17 Halny by Andrew Antosiewicz. The project has been successfully running over last months.

What Andrew is doing is absolutely amazing. The amount of details included and beautifully built leaves me simply speechless.
So, fibre glass deckhouse described in previous section is basically finished now. It has been painted together with all parts prepared before.

R-17 Halny - Fibre Glass Laminating HOW-TO
Sunday, 22 April 2007

Laminating at Home
Plugs are secured and we can carry on with the moulds.

From time to time someone is asking how to actually laminate so I will allow myself to show how I am doing it. You have to start with getting such set of tools and materials.

We have here epoxy resin, hardener, scale, plastic containers, thicknesser for the resin, paint/dye/pigment, paper towels, two types of fibre cloth 120 and 250 g/m2, scissors, brush and rubber gloves.

R-17 Halny - Part IV
Tuesday, 07 November 2006

I finished deckhouse’s frame, filled it with building foam and sanded to the level of the framing. To sand the foam is easy but it becomes very electrostatic; there more cleaning afterwards that the work itself. The deckhouse in the version is thinner for thickness of laminate which will be around 1mm.

R-17 Halny - Part III

04.11.06

The work moves on. I decided to build fibre-glass deck-house. I divided the whole deck-house into two parts - front with the bridge and rear with skylight and chimneys. Later I will glue them together on common base. Practically I have to make 4 divided forms. I drew out the deck-house on the PC and its structural frame is ready. Built from 4mm plywood. I will fill it with two components building foam, it is hard and is easy to work with.
