Tczew meeting is coming along soon and I am trying to get at least something done! So in between etching business in last few days I finished off the nails completely! That was a challenge of its own, but I must say the effect rewards it!

I keep looking at the hull and I simply like it! And that is what is the most important for the modeller. HOWEVER, next time I will use even smaller rivets from my shop (head 0.8mm!). I did not have them before.

Today I started to work on the stern gallery and some windows lids:

Frames cut out of normal European walnut, planks 0.5mm x 1mm from African walnut as the rest of the hull.

My wife went to Poland for a week or so, so I am only left with those supporters. There is one more, but very shy of the camera. Brown cat… sister of the white-red.

The best way to support – do not disturb

I have a question!
I am preparing to paint the patterns on the bulwarks with some white, red, yellow and blue.
What paint would you use?
I plan to cover the planking with oil, so naturally enamels come to my mind. But nowadays with acrylics available all over. What would you use?
Cheers

Over last couple of days I was working hard on the head and its grating.
First of all I wanted to figure out how to do it

So I think the rails should hold on the wale… logic tells me this…PLEAS correct me if I am wrong!

Grating itself:

Had to do my first ever carving! Nothing really fancy, but I was still afraid of it.
The head’s front.

Printed the piece and traced it…

cut out with fret saw…

Using some of my milling bits I DID it!!!

And here I prepare to place the gratings:

Tough day!

During the works, the cats decided to stay and keep together!!!

Small planks for the doors:

Planed and glued together at 45° angle:

And finally today I glued in the gallery!

Well, was quite busy recently with many other things than modelling. My holiday plans did not really work as originally intended. All of a sudden I felt like not doing anything and simply wanted to rest

Also trip to Poland took its time toll….

Now trying to catch up with things.
Recently cut out gunports lids:

Since I also started to work on the head I and its rails will make later access more problematic to make bowsprit gammoning not to mention mounting bowsprit itself, I decided to build one!

Having read Elias’ post about spars from square stock, which inspired me, I glued together 2 pine planks. Aha, in the end I decided to use simply pine, as I have tons of it at home. I chose nice clear pieces. With pencil I drew the triangular shape and started sanding to get very taaallll square pyramid sort of bowsprit!

I used my newly ad-hoc built milling / sanding top:

and something more powerful:

Then manual work with small planer to get octagonal section:

I placed the stock in my drill and held it at the bottom inside small ball bearing squeezed in the vice screwed to the base of drill stand:

And this is the result:
Cheers
