Looks good Walter!!!

Keep us updated!

Tell me more about the graphite and varnish. What effect does that create? Is it to darken the edges of the planks?

Thanks again!Yes I will explain What I did was i left a space between each plank sides and butt ends.I used a playing card as a spacing guide to ensure equal spacing. The graphite mixture is supposed to simulate the deck caulking.Im almost done scraping the decks today and they look pretty good Once I put a few coats of tung oil on them, they will look even better. The blue on the bulwarks is just painters tape. The outside of the bulwarks, clinker planking and the stern will eventually be painted red.Im attaching a picture to give you an idea of the red paint. This is a borrowed photo,my ship will not have a painted hull bottom,or painted sculptures.Ill try to post an updated deck photo tonight. Thanks alot for your interest in my build!! Cheers Walter

That is a very interesting technique.

I can't wait to see how it turns out!

How is the quality of Mantua kits? Are the instructions easy to follow? Any complaints?

Hello WCKRZAK,all in all the kit is very nice. The wood in the kit is of excellent quallity. The 1:1 plans are very good as are the rigging and sail plans.I think that the instruction booklet is pretty good too.The plans themselves do most of the explaining. The cannons and scuptures are bronze castings, casted from wax molds.I did have some problems with 14 of the lions head masks for the cannon port lids. They were not very good,But Mantua/Sergal sent me replacements with no problems.Their customer sevice was great. They took about two weeks to arrive from Italy to the US.Last night I finished preping the decks after a few hours of off and on scrapeing .Today they are finished with two coats of tung oil.I am now going to plank the inner bulwarks with walnut.I have put three closeup photos in my gallery Cheers Walter
